Description

A silky caramel custard filling in a buttery tart shell, finished with a glossy caramel top.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup Sugar (for caramel)
  • 4 Eggs
  • 2 cups Heavy cream
  • 1 pre-baked Tart crust
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • Powdered sugar (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a tart crust and blind bake until lightly golden.
  2. In a saucepan, melt sugar until golden caramel forms, then carefully whisk in butter and cream.
  3. Allow caramel to cool slightly, then whisk in eggs and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Pour filling into the baked tart shell and smooth the top.
  5. Bake for 40–45 minutes until custard is just set but still slightly wobbly in the center.
  6. Cool completely, then refrigerate for 2 hours to firm up.
  7. Dust with powdered sugar before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Ensure the caramel does not burn while melting.
  • For a richer flavor, use high-quality vanilla extract.
  • Let the tart cool completely before refrigerating to achieve the best texture.
